Prostitution is legal in India as long as it is not shown in public. There are about 2,8 million sex workers in the country and around 35 percent of them are estimated to have started before the age of 18. Prostitution is of course closely linked with trafficking, and many girls and women are sold into the industry and face unimaginable oppression and violations. Many of them come from neighbouring countries, such as Nepal.

* Speak out against prostitution and trafficking!

* Report suspected trafficking or child prostitution to the police!

* Contact local women’s organisations for support and information!
