FAIR INDIA

Travel more sustainable!

Karigar means artisan. It is also the name of Asha Handicrafts’ retail arm. Asha Handicrafts is a member of the International fair Trade Association (IFAT). Through its Fair Trade activities Asha Handicrafts ensures that the benefits of handicrafts production reach the crafts persons directly. The profits of the organization are ploughed back towards fair wages, design and development, capacity building, training in crafts, education assistance for artisans’ children, empowerment of women, medical facilities, financial and marketing assistance.

At the store Karigar they display handcrafted traditional arts and objects with a touch of contemporary textile art of Kalamkari from Andhra Pradesh, home furnishings in Warli art from Maharashtra, functional artifacts and traditional hand- embroidery from Kutch. They also have silver artefacts from Rajasthan, Bidri from Maharashtra and wooden artifacts from the northern part of India.
