Travel more sustainable!

The most environmentally friendly way of travelling is, except for walking and bicycling, going by train. Train travelling is almost synonymous to travelling in India and this, together with bus, is the way the vast majority of Indians travel. It’s almost a necessity if you want to experience India fully!

The standard varies greatly depending on route, class, distance and operating company but they all have one thing in common: you need to arrive at the station with plenty of time before the departure (about an hour at). The inexperienced train traveller can ask a travel agent to book their train ticket, as connections between trains can be a bit tricky to decipher. Once you know the route you need to travel you can always book your own ticket online- and save yourself at least Rs 50!

The important thing to remember is that it’s always a good idea to ask your fellow travellers or members of staff for advice. Sometimes, however, the will to please is greater than the knowledge of answers, and you may end up with incorrect information. Therefore it’s always best to ask more than one person the same question.

To book tickets you can either go to a railway station or book online. Book online is easy, you just need to register on IRCTC.
